Eric is a graduate of the University of Washington and Seattle University School of Law.  He is licensed to practice in the state and federal courts of Washington and Oregon and regularly practices throughout the United States and its territories on a pro hac vice basis.  Eric has been recognized as a Washington Super Lawyer. Eric’s practice primarily involves complex coverage and bad faith litigation involving multiple coverage lines, including commercial, personal, professional, municipal, and reinsurance.  This practice includes everything from initial legal advice and coverage opinions to the litigation, trial, and appeal of complex coverage and extra-contractual actions in state and federal court across multiple jurisdictions.

Eric represents insurers in individual actions and in class actions, including class action litigation involving insurance claims relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. Eric has also successfully represented carriers in high profile media matters, including the Ethel Adams litigation, the lawsuit involving the unsanctioned removal of trees in Seattle’s Colman Park, the Oso Landslide, the Port of Bellingham fatality fire, and COVID-19.

In addition, Eric routinely represents insurance agents in agent-negligence claims and also engages in third-party representation, including medical and professional malpractice cases, direct injury claims, and construction defect disputes. Eric also represents a number of private parties, including homeowners, contractors, and private businesses in a range of matters involving both insurance-related issues and other non-insurance matters.  Finally, Mr. Neal also provides consultation services for a variety of insurers and private parties in risk-management, policy language, and overall business practices.

Eric is also admitted to practice in several tribal courts in the Pacific Northwest, including the Suquamish Tribal Court, the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribal Community Court, and the Tribal Commercial Court for the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians.

Eric is a frequent lecturer and author on a number of legal topics, including insurance law, construction law, business law, legal ethics, and general legal practice.  Eric also regularly serves as an arbitrator and mediator in regard to a wide range of matters.

Eric lives with his wife and two sons in Kirkland, Washington.  When not working, he enjoys time with his family, cooking, baseball, and the Washington Huskies.
