MARITIME LAW
Commercial Fishing – Recreational Boating – Jones Act Claims – Death on the High Seas
Maritime law has been a cornerstone of English common law since the 17th century. In the United States, the importance of maritime law dates back to the original Constitution. In fact, several of the founding fathers specialized in maritime law, including Alexander Hamilton and John Adams.
In the Northwest and Pacific Rim, maritime law is an integral part of civil litigation. Given the extent of the commercial fishing industry, shipping industry, maritime trade, and personal recreational boating in this region, there are a significant number of claims that implicate maritime legal issues.
Lether Law Group is actively involved in the maritime legal community in the Northwest. Lether Law Group is the only waterfront law firm on Lake Union and Tom Lether is an experienced waterman and a retired, certified Coast Guard Captain.
Lether Law Group has experience in litigating Jones Act claims, as well as claims implicating the Death on the High Seas Act. In addition, a number of commercial maritime insurers, as well as personal line insurers, regularly retain our services to defend insureds in complex maritime matters. Lether Law Group is also regularly retained to address coverage issues that arise under maritime policies.
